Jongho Park (박종호)
PhD Student at UC Berkeley EECS
I am a first year PhD student in UC Berkeley EECS advised by Jason Lee and Song Mei. My research focuses on the union of generative models and deep learning theory. I'm driven by fundamental questions about why machines learn the way they do and the motivations behind the paradigms we've developed (if existent at all). I like to think about the empirical, the theoretical, and the sociological components of ML.
in the past
Before GPT-5, I was leading the core research team at Krafton AI under Kangwook Lee and fulfilled my military service there as well. We deployed some cool on-device AI into our games! Also did some fun research with Dimitris Papailiopoulos. If you are an undergrad and want to work in Seoul over the summer while earning a scholarship, consider applying to Krafton's AI Fellowship!
Before GPT-3.5, I received my M.S. at UW-Madison where I developed some mathematical maturity working on efficient algorithms for high dimensional robust statistics with Christos Tzamos and Ilias Diakonikolas.
Before GPT-3, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics with high honors and was fortunate to work with David Bamman.

I am more than happy to discuss research, but I cannot offer any research opportunities if that's what you're looking for. If you are an undergrad contemplating research or career decisions, I can give you my two cents as someone who was in both industry and academia. Forgive me if I take some time to reply though. If you are a Korean male undergrad contemplating about military service, it's probably best to go during your undergrad.
